17 weeks, 5 days

at the recommendation of many moms i know we finally started looking for infant daycare. it is so crazy to me to be looking for daycare now when my belly isn't even so big yet and i can't even imagine this baby really being here! apparently in my city infant daycare is extremely competitive because it is very hard to find an open spot. so there are waitlists, and waitlist fees and tours. it is totally blowing my mind that before we even have a nursery or have bought a single baby item we will have an idea of where this baby is going to start daycare when it is 3 months old. one place i talked to said their waitlist is currently a year out, so you would have to get on the waitlist before you even knew if you were pregnant! totally nuts.

my nausea and vomiting still hasn't gone away and now seems to be taking a new direction. it used to be that i was sick during the day, slept fine at night and had a rough time waking up in the morning. NOW, i seem to be ok during the day as long as i can keep something in my stomach, but i just started having rough nights where i wake up around 3 am, feel totally nauseous, eat something, fall back asleep, and wake up 1-2 hours later, repeating the cycle. then finally around 7 am i think my body is just worn out and tired and i throw up. last night was the worst night yet with waking up at 11 pm and almost vomiting. i ended up taking my zofran which allowed me to get a good nights sleep, but seriously body, get with the program, it is the 2nd trimester and you don't need to be sick anymore! grrr. sometimes i feel like my body is broken.

i am now starting to get all the other pregnancy symptoms of the 2nd trimester including heartburn and lower back pain so i am totally ready for this nausea/vomiting to be done with. sigh. but, it is fun to be finally starting to have a little belly and look pregnant.

on the zofran front i believe i have finally negotiated the constipation issue with taking stool softeners daily no matter what (doctor recommended) and eating dried apricots which seem to be a natural laxative for my body. thank goodness because the way zofran works for my morning sickness is just so wonderful and i need it. i tried taking Reglan and it didn't work for me (or at least it didn't work as well as the zofran). hopefully the zofran won't be needed too much longer, but i am so glad i have it when necessary.

i am also concerned about how much weight i am not gaining. it is so hard to eat sometimes, especially eating healthy, when i feel ok, but just not interested in food. so i try. and i let myself eat whatever, including cake, donuts, whatever it is, i figure it is better than nothing. i'm definitely eating good stuff too, just probably not as much as a normal un-nauseated pregnant woman does. we'll see how my weight gain shows up at my 19 week OB appointment. hopefully i'll be doing pretty good by then.

  1. Wow, crazy you are having to look at daycare this early! Good luck finding something you like!
And sorry you are still dealing with nausea...such a bummer...I so hope it goes away soon. BTW, I got a refill on zofran today and commented on how expensive the generic version is and the pharmacist said before it became generic it was $1000 for 30 pills...can you imagine?!? So glad it is now available to mere mortals! :)
